I thought I’d post a blog post about the situation in Japan with the coronavirus in order to preserve it in my history.

In mid-January, the news reported that a new type of coronavirus was prevalent in Wuhan, China, but no one took it seriously.

Late January: Spring Festival starts and Prime Minister Abe declares welcome. A lot of Chinese people came to Japan and bought a lot of masks. Seeing this, the Japanese also bought a lot. Japanese local governments have been sending masks to China. The first cases of infection occurred on houseboats and taxi drivers via Chinese travelers. The impact of the cruise ship was greater than just those. masks 60% in train.

Early February, the mask disappears completely. The news has shown us that China is in serious trouble, and even though we can see the bottomless horror, we are still enjoying the breeze and the entertainment. The number of masks on the train is 70%. More news like a fight broke out over a cough. There is a certain percentage of the “mask-nonsense faction.

Late February The March event looks like it’s going to be cancelled and everyone is worried about getting their tickets refunded. Some artists continued to perform live and came under criticism. Seniors work up a sweat in the gym, while students are anxious and go on a trip to Europe for the final culmination of their student lives. There is a certain percentage of the “Corona is no big deal” group.

Everyone is bitten by the news, and the pressure is mounting for officials and companies to fail in combating corona.

He began to worry about what was going on around him, and he began to move with the prospect of a siege in mind.

However, when it comes to Corona, “If you get sick, stay home! Don’t go to the hospital! What’s the point of having it tested! was the watchword in Japan.

In early March, all schools were closed at once. It is a trend that it can’t be helped. The news is mainly about what’s going on at the children’s house and other unimportant details.

The companies that took the first step to telecommuting are all excellent, but considering the prolonged nature of the situation afterwards, it may not be fair to evaluate them until later.

Increasingly, I get tired of hearing people close to me claim that Corona is no big deal. He responded with a mere “Maybe so.

Korea did a lot of tests, and the number of infected people increased all at once, but Japan was right not to do the tests because it was on the verge of medical collapse, wasn’t it? has suddenly become the mainstream.

Mid-March We learn in the news that Italy is in worse shape than China. Westerners don’t wear masks and it’s a hug and kiss culture, so it’s different from Japan. But I’m starting to wonder if the Chinese and Italian coronas are different kinds, and if the Italian coronas will be in trouble if they come to Japan. Packed trains are slightly less crowded? The mask rate is 80%. The train rolls down the window and starts running. The mask nonsense group is alive and well. We hear that “an acquaintance of an acquaintance of an acquaintance” has been infected.

There will be no more Olympics, say 100 out of 100 people. Already it has become the consensus of the people of the world.

Late March: The Olympics are postponed. I save the day’s newspaper as a memento. I’ll take it to heart that I’m living in a special moment in human history.

Italy and Spain have it even worse. On the other hand, Japan’s low number of infections and deaths becomes noticeable at an inexplicable level. There is a lot of talk on the street, but only the layman can think of such things as “Japanese people are clean”, “Japan has good medical care”, “Japanese people wear masks”, “Japanese people follow the rules”. Most people around me think the same way. When I applied this idea, everyone was in agreement that “America is in trouble,” and it became a reality.

But shouldn’t Japan just do nothing about it? The question of “What do you think? There was a buying frenzy in supermarkets, but the crowded trains are still crowded, and masks are disappearing, so there are a lot of people who don’t wear them. Every store remains open for business as usual.

The “non-maskers” will finally be forced to wear masks. For some reason, the number of people coughing dropped dramatically. Is it possible to stop a cough if you are aware of it, even if you have a sore throat from smoking or aging? It’s too much of a mystery.

In early April, Shimura Ken, a very famous Japanese comedian, died in Corona. Some people started crying when they saw the news. For many people, the horror of the corona becomes reminiscent of death.
